Days of the week.

Our lovely grandson is finishing his first term in the language unit. It is really helping him to talk and use all his other skills to understand and learn. He got a certificate in assembly for reciting days of the week!
I am not ingnoring him in the video but trying to work the camera (honest)
As always let the video stream in once jerkily and then play again.

Just got back from a weekend in Norfolk visiting the shrine at Walsingham. It doesn't matter if you are a believer or not it is a wondrous place to visit . It's full of history and has a great tranquility about it. If you are a Christian it's a must!

Boaters breaking the ice.

We went to Skipton in Yorkshire on Saturday. The weather was glorious and sunny but freezing cold. It was so cold the the canal had partially frozen over. Still a few intrepid boaters decided to have a short sail. If you watch the video below you can hear the ice cracking as the boat glides smoothly through the water.
As always please be patient. Let the video stream in once jerkily then just play again and it will play smoothly.

Sinterklaas

Sinterklaas
Originally uploaded by Guern.
Well it's Santa time again. My grandson went to see him yesterday and put his order in for Thomas the Tank Engine's latest whatever it is. It's the time of Christmas church fayres and the shops are trimmed already. I love every minute of it.
i thought you might like to see Santa from another country . This is a collage that a friend from Holland made centring around Sinterklass.

Brrr ....frosty morning

Brrr ....frosty morning

Well the weather has turned well and truly into winter. I just love it. It's so much better than those dark rainy November days that we usually get. Instead of that we waken to hard frosts and beautiful blue skies.
Everything looks different somehow in the deep cold. I was driving back from my grandson's school this morning and as I dropped into the town I saw a skyline which I have driven past so many times and never even noticed. It has the townhall and several mill chimneys and the whole thing was lit from the back by the rising sun. Just perfect!!

We went to Whalley Abbey today in bright sunshine as you can see. When walking through the 'abbot's kitchen' we were startled to see the shadow of the abbot and his manservant appear in the sunlight from the window.... well maybe it was me and my grandson posing for a pic!!!!

Bonfire night

A good wet November night to celebrate. The fireworks were being set off absolutely everywhere and we managed to find a nice fire on a piece of spare land to watch the fun!
If watching the video please be patient. Let it stream in jerkily first time and then play it again and it will play smoothly.

A day in Yorkshire

Yesterday we took our grandson to see our oldest son and his wife living in sunny Barnsley South Yorkshire. Apart form a minor (gulp) hiccough at the start when we were supposed to meet on junction 32 off the M62 and we ended up going towards junction 32 on the M1, we all had a great day.
The highlight of the day was taking our 4 year old grandson bowling for the first time ever. He loved every minute and after watching the guys around in the other aisles he soon began to develop the 'post throw' strut when he got lots of the pins down. The weather somehow held off until we left for home and then proceeded to bucket it down unitl we arrived home. Never mind great day out for all!

Halloween

Snake?
Originally uploaded by Digital Nana.
Well Halloween passed very quietly round here not even a trick or treat at the door. Anyway my friend Donna in America tells me it is a big thing out there and she put some photos on flickr of the pumpkins which she saw . They are truly amazing and if you would like to see more just click on the pic here and it will take you to Donna's page. It made me feel very ashamed of the tiny little pumkins on sale in Sainsbury's and ASDA ....for a small fortune too!!!
